Fulfil rights of Batu Sapi constituents to vote once emergency withdrawn – Warisan
KOTA KINABALU,. Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) hopes the rights of the Batu Sapi constituents to elect their representatives will be fulfilled as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic is under control and after the government lifts the state of emergency in the parliamentary constituency.
Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal also hoped the government could find the best way to inform the people, especially in the Batu Sapi constituency, when the emergency period would end.
“In implementing the democratic process, the health of the people should not be at put at stake, but be given priority in the current situation with the country still fighting against the spread of COVID-19.
“Warisan wishes to express its thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah) who has given consent for an emergency to be implemented in the Batu Sapi Parliamentary constituency,” he said in a statement here tonight.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today made a Proclamation of Emergency for the Batu Sapi Parliamentary constituency, in effect cancelling the by-election for the seat.
The Proclamation of Emergency based on Clause (1) Article 150 of the Federal Constitution was made after studying the explanation given by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who had presented his advice based on a decision taken at the Cabinet meeting.
Mohd Shafie said Warisan believed that His Majesty issued the order out of concern for the health of the people of Sabah, especially in Batu Sapi, which is now one of the COVID-19 red zones.
“Warisan also hopes that during this emergency period, the government guarantees that the welfare of every citizen in Batu Sapi, especially food aid and daily necessities will always be given priority,” he said.
