Melaka stops Para Sukma athletes’ training programmes with immediate effect until Dec 6
MELAKA,. Melaka has immediately halted its athletes’ training programmes for the Malaysian Para Games (Para Sukma) until Dec 6, said state executive councillor for Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Youth Development and Sports Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen.
However, the training programme for the Melaka Sukma athletes would continue to be conducted in compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN).
“The decision was taken based on the health, well-being and good of all parties involved in facing the threat of COVID-19.
“As such, the existing centralised athletes’ training programmes under the auspices of the National Sports Council (NSC) and state NSC can be continued in a closed and controlled manner,” he said in a statement tonight.
On Monday, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican announced that the 2020 Sukma and Para Sukma in Johor had to be cancelled due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, which entered its third wave in the country.
